Jazz emerged during the late nineteenth century in the Southern U.S., and rose to prominance in the 1920s. Jazz is a broad genre, but one of its defining features is improvisation, and it ususally incorporates brass instruments. Well known jazz musicians inlude Benny Goodman, Miles Davis, and Louis Armstrong.
