Funk

Funk is a rhythm-driven genre that was popular in the 70s and early 80s. In the 60s, James Brown's band 'established the "funk beat"', which put emphasis on the first note of the bar. Examples of well-known funk artists include Parliament-Funkadelic, Sly and the Family Stone, and Kool and the Gang.

Oh look, it's Prince. He had something to do with funk, didn't he?
